Alphonse John & Rose Mary (Ruffing) Wurm

Alphonse John Wurm, son of Matthias Nathan and Martha Christine (Falter) Wurm, was born 14 May 1894 at St. Stephen, Seneca County, Ohio and died 31 July 1985 at Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio.  He married Rose Mary Ruffing 2 May 1922 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bismark, Seneca County, Ohio.  She was born 13 July 1902 at Bismark, Seneca County, Ohio to Peter and Clara (Stockmaster) Ruffing and died 8 Feb 1982 at Toledo, Ohio.  Alphonse and Rose are buried in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery at St. Stephen, Seneca County, Ohio.

"Alphons J. Wurm, 91, formerly of Bloomville, died this morning, July 31, 1985, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin.  He had been a resident there since 1982.

He was born May 14, 1894, in St. Stephens, to Mathias and Martha (Falter) Wurm.  On May 2, 1922, he married Rose Ruffing in St. Sebastians Church, Bismark.  She died in 1982.

Surviving are four sons, Clem of Oregon, Ohio, Robert and Bernard, both of Bloomville and Victor of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Holmer of Attica, Mrs. Charles (Lucille) Mirtes of Bellevue and Mrs. Thomas (Agnes) Depinet of Bloomville; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florine Faeth of Autumnwood Care Center and Bertha Bechtel of St. Francis Home, Tiffin.  His parents; a son, two brothers; and six sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Wurm had retired from farming.  He was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stephens Church with the Rev. Raymond Siefert officiating.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, N. Main St., Attica.  The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m."

"Rose M. Wurm, 79, of 7175 CR 23, Bloomville, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1982, at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, following a four-month illness.

She was born July 13, 1902, in Bismark to Peter and Clara (Stockmaster) Ruffing.  On May 2, 1922, she married Alfonse Wurm in Bismark and he survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Clement of Oregon, Ohio, Robert and Bernard of Bloomville, Victor of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Holmer of Attica, Mrs. Charles (Lucille) Mirtes of Bellevue and Mrs. Thomas (Agnes) Depinet of Bloomville; a brother, Linus Ruffing of Norwalk, 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  A son, a grandson, a sister and a brother are deceased.

She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society of New Washington, Bloomville American Legion Auxiliary, Bloomville Community Club and Gold Star Mothers.

The Rev. Stephen Cairns will officiate at the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Foos & Son Funeral Home, Attica, where the rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m. Thursday."


Alphonse John and Rose Mary (Ruffing) Wurm had eight children:

1 - Clement Matthias Wurm was born 18 June 1923 and died 22 Nov 2008 at Sandusky, Ohio.  He married Anna Mae Hosman 26 Aug 1947.  She was born 18 Sept 1921 in Thompson Township, Seneca County, Ohio to Edward W. and Gertrude (Burger) Hosman and died 16 March 1979 at Toledo, Ohio.  Clement's second marriage was on 20 Sept 1980 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Republic, Ohio to Patricia A. (Toepper) Schiffler  Patricia was born 18 July 1929 at Tiffin, Ohio to Thomas and Evelyn (Conkey) Toepper and died 1 May 2001.
2 - Arnold Joseph Wurm was born 13 June 1925 and died 20 Jan 1945 at Luxembourg, Germany.  He had been assigned overseas in July 1922 as a radio operator with General Patton's Third Army.  Arnold is buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial at Hamm, Luxembourg.

"ATTICA, Feb. 10 - Pfc. Arnold Joseph Wurm was killed in action in Luxembourg January 20, according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso Wurm from the War Department.  He was a radio operator with General Patton's Third Army.

He was born June 13, 1925.  He was graduated from Chatfield High School in 1943, and on March 3, 1944 was inducted into the army from Crawford County.  He was assigned to an overseas post in July, 1944.

Pfc. Wurm was a members of St. Stephen's church, St. Stephen, and a memorial mass will be sung there next Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

His parents reside on the Baseline south and west of Attica.  Four brothers and three sisters also survive."
