Joseph David & Frances E. (Brown) Hawn

Joseph David Hawn, son of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 28 Nov 1854 and died 6 Oct 1915 at Weier's Station, Erie County, Ohio.  Joseph was baptised 16 Dec 1854 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio.  Sponsors were Wilhelm Lehman and Anna Lehman.  Joseph was the only one of Henry and Mary's children to change the spelling of his last name from Hahn to Hawn.  He married Frances E. Brown 26 Aug 1879 in Erie County, Ohio.  She was born 14 Nov 1848 to Orlando and Laura (Boice) Brown and died 26 Dec 1934 in Erie County, Ohio.  Joseph and Frances are buried in Sand Hill Cemetery in Erie County, Ohio.

"Joseph D. Hawn, aged 60 years, 10 months and 8 days, died at the family residence at Weier's Station at 8:30 Wednesday morning.  Funeral services will be held at the residence at 1:30 Friday afternoon and at 2:00 at Sand Hill Church.  Rev. Herbert Thompson will officiate and burial will be made in Sand Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hawn leaves his widow, one son, Edward Hawn of Sand Hill, one daughter, Mrs. Harvey Holtz of this city; four grandchildren, three brothers, Oliver, Martin, and John Hawn of Republic; four sisters, Mrs. Philip Scheer of New Riegel; Mrs. Thomas Neikirk, Republic, O., Mrs. David Swick, Republic, O., and Mrs. Harvey Yoder, Longley, O."

"Mrs. Frances Hawn, widow of Joseph Hawn, well known resident of this city, died at the Britton Convalescent Home at 5:20 p.m., Wednesday after a week's illness, aged 86 years, one month and 12 days.

Mrs. Hawn is survived by one son, Edwin A. Hawn, of Butler, Ohio; one daughter, Rose Holtz, of Sandusky; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Brown of Madison, Wisc., and many other relatives and friends.

For the past 19 years Mrs. Hawn had resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rose Holtz 1216 Milan-Rd.

The body was taken to the Charles J. Andres Sons' Funeral Home for burial preparations.  Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home to view the body and funeral services will be conducted there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. at the Sand Hill Methodist Church with Rev. M.A. Burris officiating.  Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery."


Joseph David and Frances E. (Brown) Hawn had four children:

1 - Edwin Arthur Hawn (1881-1946)
2 - Rose Elizabeth Hawn (1887-1970)
3 - Franklin M. Hawn was born 7 April 1890 in Margaretta Township, Erie County, Ohio and died of cholera 8 August 1890 in Margaretta Township, Erie County, Ohio
4 - unknown Hawn died before 1900.  (In the 1900 census Frances (Brown) Hawn  is recorded as having given birth to four children, two of whom were living in 1900)
