Frank Joseph Clous was born 12 March 1877 at Ney, Ohio to Matthias and Mary (Hahler) Clous and died 1 July 1965.  He married Mary Worm 9 Jan 1900 at Hannah, Michigan.  Mary was born 4 March 1879 in Crawford County, Ohio to Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm.  She was baptised as Miriam Worm at St. Bernards Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio on 6 April 1879.  Mary died of heart failure 30 March 1905 in Blair Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  Following Mary's death, Hattie Wurm, daughter of Joseph and Katherine Dorothy (Weis) Wurm, began helping Frank with the care of his young daughter Marcella.  Hattie Wurm and Frank Clous were married 14 Nov 1905 at St. Mary's Catholic in Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  Hattie's baptismal name was Hedwig Maria Louisa Wurm.  She was born 18 Nov 1887 in Venice Township, Seneca County, Ohio and died 5 Jan 1986 at Kingsley, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.

"HANNAH - The funeral mass for Frank J. Clous, 88, of Hannah will be sung at 10 a.m. Monday at Hannah St. Mary's Church, Rev. Fr. Francis Karl celebrant, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Clous died Thursday morning in a Traverse City hospital after a long illness.

He was born March 13, 1877 at Defiance, O., the son of Mathias and Mary Clous, moved to Suttons Bay at an early age with his parents, and in 1898 settled at Hannah, where he had since reside and where he was a farmer.  He was a member of Hannah St. Mary's Church and Holy Name Society.

On January 9, 1900 he was married to Mary Wurm, four children being born to the union, and after her death was married on March 14, 1905 to Hedwig Wurm, who survives.

Also surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Marcella Beuth of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Stein and Mrs. Whitney (Mary) Lyon of Traverse City, and Mrs. Howard (Teresa) Bott of Hannah; 10 sons, Victor, Clarence, Edmund, Ralph, August, and Francis of Kingsley, Leonard and Raymond of Buckley, Alfred of Traverse City, and Joseph of Saginaw; 76 grandchildren, including Rev. Fr. William Beuth of Peru, South America, and Sister Madeleva of Puerto Rico; 40 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ed (Anna) Hoch of Traverse City; a brother, Joseph of Traverse City; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Clous was preceded in death by, in addition to the first wife, five sons, Wilfred, John, Thomas, Lawrence, and Julius; three brothers, Charles, Albert and George; and two sisters, Mary Chimoski and Kate Seiber.

Rosaries will be recited at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Smith funeral home in Kingsley."

"KINSGLEY - Hedwig Maria Clous, 99, a homemaker, died Sunday at home.

She had been a resident of Hannah since the age of seven.  She was the oldest pioneer member of St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church, where she was a charter member of the Altar Society and St. Marie's Circle.  She belonged to the Third Order of Carmel.

She was born Nov. 18, 1887, in Stephens, Ohio, to Joseph and Katherine (Wise) Wurm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Clous in 1965.  Also preceding her in death were two sons, Julius and Lawrence; a brother, Innocence Wurm; a sister, Olivia Hahler, and several grandchildren.

She is survived by 10 sons, Victor and Alfred, both of Traverse City, Joseph of Saginaw, Edmund, Clarence, Ralph and Francis, all of Kingsley, Leonard and Raymond, both of Buckley, and August of Grawn; four daughters, Marcella Beuth of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Dorothy Stein and Mary Lyon, both of Traverse City, and Teresa Bott of Kingsley; a brother, Alois Wurm of Hannah; 86 grandchildren, 130 great grandchildren and 43 great great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church.  The Rev. James McLaughlin will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A rosary will be recited tonight at 7 at the church, where friends may call from 2 until 9 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Mass intentions.

In addition to regular services here, a memorial Mass will be celebrated later by her grandson, the Rev. William Beuth of Lima, Peru.

Arrangements were made by the Covell-Smith Funeral Home, Kingsley."

Frank Joseph and Mary (Worm) Clous had four children:
1 - Wilfred E. Clous was born 25 Oct 1900 at Kingsley, Grand Traverse County, Michigan and died 9 April 1901.
2 & 3- John Clous and Thomas Clous, twins, were born and died 4 May 1902 in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  John lived for one hour and Thomas for an hour and a half.

Adam Michael Worm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 20 Feb 1878 and died 27 Aug 1969 at Traverse City, Michigan.  He was baptised at St. Bernards Catholic Church in New Washington, Crawford County, Ohio on 24 Feb 1878.  Adam married Mary Josephine Steinebach 25 Nov 1902 in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  She was born 8 Nov 1885 at Grand Rapids, Michigan to Joseph and Mary (Vogt) Steinebach and died 14 Sept. 1955.

"ADAM WORM DIED AT 91 - Adam Worm, 91,  of 3036 Pineview Drive, Traverse City, a former Hannah resident, died early Wednesday afternoon at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a short illness.

A funeral mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Staurday at Hannah St. Mary's Church, Rev. Fr. Robert Bissot celebrant, with burial in the church cemetery.

Rosaries will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening and Friday evening at Smith funeral home in Kingsley.

Mr. Worm was born February 20, 1878 at Sandusky, O. and at an early age moved with his parents to the Hannah area.  He was a member of Hannah St. Mary's Church and was a farmer for many years before moving to Traverse City in 1955.

In 1902 he was married to Mary Steinbach, who died September 14, 1955.  A son, Joseph, died on Juily 28, 1944, while serving with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are; seven sons, Julius of Grand Rapids, Isadore of Muskegon, Ambrose of Kingsley, Harold of Vassar, and Eugene, Bernard and Kenneth of Traverse City; three daughters, Mrs. Loraine Yanski of Traverse City, Mrs. Paul (Louise) Frisch of Saginaw, and Mrs. Carl (Mary) Revett of Traverse City; 31 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild; two brothers, Lawrence and Cornelius, both of Traverse City; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Umlor of Kingsley and Mrs. John (Cecilia) DeFer of Traverse City, and many other relatives."

"MARY J. WORM, HANNAH, DIES - Mrs. Mary J. Worm, 79, of Hannah, died Wednesday morning in the Boardman Valley hospital following a brief illness.

Mary Steinebach was born November 8, 1885, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Steinebach.  At the age of 11 years she moved with her parents to Hannah.

On November 25, 1904, she was united in marriage to Adam Worm of Hannah and to this union were born 11 children.

Mrs. Worm was a member of the St. Mary's church at Hannah and was a member of the Altar Society of the parish as long as her health permitted.

Surviving, besides her husband, are three daughters, Mrs. Loraine Yanski of Traverse City, Mrs. Louise Frisch and Mrs. Mary Revett of Saginaw; seven sons, Julius and Eugene of Grand Rapids, Isadore of Muskegon, Ambrose of Kingsley, Harold of Vassar, Bernard of Detroit and Kenneth of Saginaw; two brothers, Joseph Steinebach of Grand Rapids and William Steinebach of Hannah; one sister, Mrs. Louise Bunce of Traverse City; 29 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.  One son, Sgt. Joseph Worm, was killed July 28, 1944, in France.

Mrs. Worm was taken to the Smith funeral home in Kingsley and will be taken to the farm home Thursday afternoon where the Rosary will be recited Thursday and Friday nights at 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held from the St. Mary's church at Hannah Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock.  The Rev. Fr. Clement Sigmund will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery."

Schroeder 19 Jan 1952 at Traverse City, Michigan.  She was born about 1932 at Traverse City, Michigan to Arthur and Wanda (Morton) Schroeder.  Kenneth and Jeannine divorced before 1959.

Frank Joseph Worm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 11 Dec 1876 in Crawford County, Ohio and died 11 Sept 1949 in Garfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  He was baptised as Joseph Ausabains Worm on 17 Dec 1876 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio.  Frank married Magdelina Helena "Lena" Ockert 27 Sept 1904 at Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  Lena was born in 1883 at Remus, Michigan to Christopher Joseph and Katherine (Steinebach) Ockert and died in 1920.

"Frank Joseph Worm, 72, died Sunday at the Boardman Valley hospital following an illness of several weeks.

Frank Worm was born Dec. 8, 1872, in Ohio, the son of Thomas and Barbara Worm.  At an early age he came with his parents to Michigan and settled on a farm near Hannah.  In 1904 he was united in marriage to Helena Ockert of Hannah and to this union were born five children.

Mr. Worm owned and operated a farm up until the past few years which he spent in Muskegon and Traverse City.  He was a member of the St. Mary's church, Hannah, and also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, No. 383, Traverse City.

Surviving are four sons, Vincent of Munising, Wendell of Hannah, Raymond and Edwin of Traverse City; one daughter, Mrs. Leon Dobson of Traverse City; five brothers, Peter, Benjamin, Cornelius, and Lawrence of Traverse City, and Adam of Hannah; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Fasel and Mrs. John DeFer of Traverse City, and Mrs. Ivan Umlor of Hannah; 15 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Two children died in infancy and his wife preceded him in death in 1920.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from St. Mary's church, Hannah.  The Rev. Father Clement Sigmund will officiate and interment will be made in the family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hannah.

The body will repose at the home of his son, Wendall Worm, of Hannah, where the rosary will be recited Monday and Tuesday evenings."

Benjamin Wurm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 22 Jan 1874 in Crawford County, Ohio and died in 1958.  He was baptised as Bernard Worm on 23 Jan 1874 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio.  He married Margaret "Maggie" Ockert 22 May 1899 at Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  She was born 28 March 1879 to Christopher Joseph and Katherine (Steinebach) Ockert and died in 1953.

"Mrs. Ben Wurm, 74, passed away Sunday morning at her home, 919 Cass street, following a lingering illness.

Margaret Ockert was born March 28, 1879 at Remus, the caughter of Christopher and Catherine Ockert, and when a small child moved with her parents to this region, settling on a farm near Hannah.

On March 28, 1899, she was united in marriage to Ben Wurm, also of Hannah, and the couple settled on their own farm near Hannah, where they resided until 1915 when they moved to Traverse City to make their home.

She was a life long member of the Catholic church and Altar society, and a member of the Order of Martha.

Surviving are the husband and one daughter, Mrs. E.J. Martineau of Traverse City; three sons, Clarence of Alexandria, Virginia, and Linus and Wilford of Traverse City; three sisters, Mrs. J.P. Simon of Remus, Mrs. Anna Reamer of Muskegon, and Mrs. A.K. Stroh of Cadillac; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.  One daughter, Amelia, one brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

The body was taken to the Reynolds Funeral home and services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Francis church with Fr. Joseph Kohler officiating.  Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery at Oakwood.  The rosary will be recited at the funeral home tonight at 8:00 o'clock."


Benjamin and Margaret (Ockert) Wurm had five children:

3 - Linus Frank Wurm was born 12 Nov 1903 at Hannah, Michigan and died 19 Sept 1962 at Traverse City, Michigan.  Linus never married.  He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City, Michigan. 
4 - Amelia Wurm was born 10 Dec 1904 and died of infant cholera 24 May 1905 in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.
5 - Wilfred L. Wurn was born 11 April 1907 at Hannah, Michigan and died 23 July 1955 at Grawn, Michigan.  As an adult he used the surname Wurn.  Wilfred married Margaret E. "Marge" Legraff 3 Aug 1944 at Richmond, Virginia.  She was born 23 March 1910 at Elk Rapid, Antrim County, Michigan to Edward Morrison and Ethel Maud (Turk) Legraf and died 20 July 1981 at Muskegon, Michigan.  Following Wilfred's death, Marge married Charles Joseph Cyr.  Wilfred is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City, Michigan.  He and Marge did not have any children.

"Linus F. Wurm, 57, of 919 Cass Street, died Wednesday evening at Medical Care Facility following a two month illness.

Mr. Wurm was born November 12, 1905, at Hannah, and in 1915 came to Traverse City with his parents.  He had lived here since.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ervin J. Martineau of Traverse City; a brother, Clarence, of Alexandria, Virginia, and two nieces, one nephew and other relatives.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church with Fr. Joseph Kohler officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited Friday at 8:00 p.m. at Reynolds funeral home here."

"TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE - Mr. and Mrs. Ben Worm, 919 Cass Street, have received word that Sgt. W.L. Worm has been transferred from Germany to France.  He has received his E.T.O. shoulder pads and also the E.T.O. ribbon, and Good Conduct medal with two battle stars.  He has been in France, Germany and Holland.  His wife, Mrs. Marge Worm, resides here with her sister, Mrs. Hubell, Garfield avenue."

"Wilfred L. Wurn, 48, Grawn, died suddenly Saturday morning at his home.

Mr. Wurn was born April 11, 1907, at Hannah and when eight years old came to Traverse City with his parents, where he resided until recently, attending St. Francis school.  He served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II, six months being served in the European theater.  He and his wife had just returned the day before from visiting his brother in Alexandria, Virginia.

Surviving are the widow; his father, Benjamin, of this city; two brothers, Clarence of Alexandria, Virginia and Linus of this city; one sister, Mrs. E.J. Martineau of this city; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  His mother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Wurn is at the Reynolds Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited tonight at 8:00 o'clock and funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Francis church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Kohler officiating.  Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery at Oakwood.  Military committal services will be held at the cemetery by the American Legion."

Katherine Helen "Katie" Worm, daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 30 Sept 1871 in Crawford County, Ohio and died 10 Oct 1956.  She married Joseph Fasel 2 June 1891 at Traverse City, Michigan.  He was born 27 Oct 1866 to Mathias and Anna M. (Steinebach) Fasel and died 18 Feb 1938.

Joseph and Katherine Helen (Worm) Fasel had three children:

1 - Mathias Joseph Fasel (1892-1988)
2 - Anna Mary Fasel (1893-1980)
3 - Edward Theodore Fasel (1897-1976)

Peter Christian Worm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 15 April 1870 in Crawford County, Ohio and died 1 Sept 1953 at Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  He married Elizabeth Mary "Lizzie" Weber 15 Jan 1895 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  She was born 30 Aug 1877 in Allegan County, Michigan to Joseph and Mary Ann (Wolf) Weber and died 25 May 1956.

"Peter C. Worm, 83, passed away Tuesday afternoon at his home, South Sprice street, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Worm was born in New Washington, Ohio April 15, 1870, came to this region with his parents in 1884 and settled at Hannah.  On Jan. 16, 1895 he was married to Elizabeth Weber and the couple made their home on a farm near Hannah until 1906 when they came to Traverse City, where he has since resided.

Surviving besides his widow, one son, Joseph T. Worm, and one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Eagleton, both of this city; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, four brothers, Ben, Neil and Lawrence of this city and Adam of Hannah; three sisters, Mrs. John DeFer of this city, Mrs. Ivan Umlor of Hannah, and Mrs. Kate Fasel of Hannah and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church and the Holy Name Society.

The body was taken to the Reynolds Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 8:00 o'clock.  Funeral servies will be held at 9:00 o'clock Friday morning at the Immaculate Conception church with Father Russell Passean officiating.  Burial will be made in the Hannah cemetery."

Theodore John Worm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 9 Nov 1868 in Crawford County, Ohio and died 16 Feb 1947.  He was baptised as John Titus Worm at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio on 12 Nov 1868.  Theodore married Margaret Hendges 23 May 1899 at Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  She was born 19 April 1878 in Grand Traverse County, Michigan to John and Elizabeth (Biermaker) Hendges and died 20 May 1941.

"OLD KINGSLEY RESIDENT DIES - Theodore J. Worm, 78, passed away Sunday night at his farm home west of Kingsley, following a long illness.

Mr. Worm was born Nov. 9, 1868, in Ohio and came with his parents, Thomas and Barbara Worm, to this community in 1882.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Hendges in 1890 and to this union were born four children.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ed Zenner and Mrs. Armond Schmuckal and Mrs. Raymond Clous of Thompsonville and one son, Alfred, at home; besides 6 brothers, Peter, Bernard and Adam of Kingsley, four sisters, Mrs. Kate Fasel and Mrs. John DeFer of Traverse City, Mrs. John Cronin of Ludington, and Mrs. Ivan Umlor of Kingsley, 24 grandchildren and a host of friends.  Mrs. Worm passed away six years ago.

Mr. Worm was a member of the St. Marys church of Hannah.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:30  from St. Marys Church at Hannah with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rev. Fr. Clement Sigmund officiating."

Paul & Anna Maria (Nink) Worm

Paul Worm, son of Thomas and Barbara (Miller) Worm, was born 7 Oct 1867 in Cranberry Township, Crawford County, Ohio and died 26 July 1944 in Acme Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  He married Anna Maria Nink 13 Aug 1894 at Traverse City, Michigan.  She was born 29 July 1871 in Allegan County, Michigan to Jacob and Catherine (Sump) Nink and died 24 May 1916 in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.

Paul and Anna Maria (Nink) Worm had six children:

3 - Mary Magdalene Worm was born 5 August 1899 and died 1 March 1993 at Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Mary Magdalene joined the Domincan Sisters at Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1917 and became known as Sister Mary Rudolphine.  She is buried in Resurrection Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
4 - Frederick B. "Fred" Wurn was born 17 Feb 1901 in Mayfield Township, Grand Graverse County, Michigan and died 22 March 1974.  As an adult he changed his last name to Wurn.  Fred married Anna Jubelt 13 May 1922 at Detroit, Michigan.  Anna was born about 1901 in Illinois to Ernest and Anna (Viehweg) Jubelt. 
5 - Johnnie Worm was born 1 August 1905 and died of diptheria 11 April 1913 in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.

"SISTER CELEBRATES GOLDEN JUBILEE - A surprise party in honor of Sister M. Rudolphine, O.P., who is celebrating her Golden Jubilee this year, was held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ockert in Hannah.  The celebration began at 1:30 p.m. with a family dinner followed by the serving of a lovely cake which indicated the fifty years she has been a member of the sisterhood.

Celebrants attending from Traverse City were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Clous and their daughters, Linda, Nancy, Barbara and Betty; and Mr. and Mrs. James Clous and children, Steven, Therese and Ann Marie.  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ockert and their daughter Rosemary came from Hannah.  Congratulations were also received from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bellows, and Fred Clous and family, who were unable to attend.

Sister M. Rudolphine has also been guest of honor at other celebrations held recently in Merrill and Alpena.

Botn to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wurm on August 5, 1900, Sister M. Rudolphine, the former Mary Wurm, lived in Hannah until she joined the sisterhood at the age of 17 in 1917.  For the past 19 years she has been a fifth and sixth grade teacher at the Sacred Heart School in Merrill.  This year she received a new assignment and will leave Traverse City Thursday for Grand Rapids, where she will teach the fifth grade at St. Anthony's school this fall.  Her new address will be Sister M. Rudolphine, O.P., St. Anthony's Convent, Acacia Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan."

"Grand Rapids - Sister Rudolphine Wurn, OP, for former Mary Magdalene Wurn of Hannah, 93, died Monday at Aquinata Hall in Grand Rapids.

She had been a Grand Rapids Dominican Sister for 76 years.  A teacher, she had served at St. Michael, Maple Grove; St. John Homes, Grand Rapids; St. Anthony, Marcelona; St. Joseph, East Jordan; Ss. Peter and Paul, Grand Rapids; St. Sebastian, Byron Center; Sacred Heart, Merrill; and St. Anthony, Grand Rapids.

Sister Rudolphine is survived by her sister-in-law, Pearl Wurm of Traverse City, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the Dominican Chapel/Marywood, 2025 E. Fulton St., Grand Rapids.  Burial will be in Ressurection Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dominican Chapel/Marywood from 1:15 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a vigil and remembering service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to The Grand Rapids Dominicans Retirement Fund."

Anna Laura Hahn, daughter of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 12 April 1877 at Republic, Ohio and died 20 Dec 1959.  Prior to her marriage, Anna worked as a servant for the Abraham and Louisa McClain family in Fostoria, Ohio.  She married Harvey Franklin Yoder 7 Oct 1900 at Bascom, Seneca County, Ohio.  Harvey was born 25 March 1874 in Marshall County, West Virginia to James L. and Barbara E. (Banders) Yoder and died 14 April 1943.  Anna's second marriage was on 23 Dec 1949 at Fostoria, Ohio to John H. Young  John was born 1 April 1884 at Fostoria, Ohio to John W. and Caroline (Crauhn) Young.

"Mrs. Anna Yoder, 209 E. Tiffin St., died at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 1959.  She was 82 years old.

Mrs. Yoder was born in Seneca County on April 12, 1877, the daughter of the Henry Hahns.

She is survived by a son, Carl, of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Oletha Gelsky, Detroit; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Rose Swick, Republic.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday in the Mann Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Tucker officiating.  Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery."

Rose Myrtle Hahn, daughter of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 22 August 1873 in Erie County, Ohio and died 18 Sept 1960 at Tiffin, Ohio.  She married David Jacob Swick 18 Dec 1888 in Seneca County, Ohio.  He was born 31 Dec 1866 to Giles and Christiane (Somers) Swick and died 7 June 1913.

"Services Wednesday for Mrs. Rose Swick - Republic Woman, 87, Died Here Sunday

Mrs. Rose M. Swick, 87, of Republic, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 1960, in Mercy hospital.  She had been a patient there since Sept. 3.

A native of Erie County, Mrs. Swick was born Aug. 22, 1873 to Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn.  She was married Dec. 18, 1888 to David Swick, and he died June 7, 1913.  Surviving are two daughters and a son, Mrs. Merle Williams, Granada Hills, Calif.; Mrs. Glenn Neifer and David J. of Republic and eight grandchildren.  A daughter, Mrs. Milton Reiff, a son Oliver and four brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pancoast funeral home in Republic and will be conducted by the Rev. Daniel Bare.  Burial will be in the Clock cemetery near Cooper."

Martin Bernard Hahn, son of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 28 April 1867 in Venice Township, Seneca County, Ohio and died 17 April, 1929 at Detroit, Michigan.  In 1880 Martin was employed as a farm laborer living with the Henry VanFleet family in Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio.  He married Cecelia B. "Ceba" Crippen 15 Sept 1887 in Seneca County, Ohio.  She was bornin May, 1869 to Daniel Albert and Marian A. (Cramer) Crippen and died 10 March, 1951 at Detroit, Michigan.

"Martin Hahn was born at Venice Township, April 1867 and died Wednesday April 17, 1929 at Detroit, Michigan, aged 62 years.

He was married September 15, 1887 to Clo Crippen at Republic, O.

This union was blessed with five children: Jacob D. Hahn, Henry M., Chas. B., Marion A. Gorman, and Corine Hahn.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hahn, preceded him in death.  He leaves to mourn, his wife, his children as stated above, one brother, John, sisters Mrs. Tom Neikirk, Mrs. Harvey Yoder of Fostoria, Mrs. Rose Swick of Republic, also three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical church conducted by Rev. August H. Kehr.  Burial in Farewell Retreat Cemetery."

"Mrs. Ceba Hahn, widow of Martin Hahn and a native of Republic, died in her home in Detroit at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 1951, following a heart attack.

Surviving are two sons, Henry Hahn and Charles Hahn, and two daughters, Mrs. William Gorman and Mrs. Harry Griffith, all of Detroit, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Cora Frankfather, Fostoria.  She had resided in Republic until her marriage in 1912 after which she made her home in Detroit.

The body will be brought to the Pancoast funeral home in Republic and funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Farewell Retreat Cemetery in Republic."

Martin B. and Cecelia B. (Crippen) Hahn had five children:

1 - Jacob Daniel Hahn was born 31 July 1889 in Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio and died 23 Oct. 1937 at Perk, Saginaw County, Michigan.  He married Julianna Helen Brescoll 3 Sept 1921 at Detroit, Michigan.  She was born 13 Dec 1889 in Monclova Township, Lucas County, Ohio to Peter and Barbara (Sulewska) Brescoll and died 15 Feb 1974 at Grosse Point, Wayne County, Michigan.  Jacob and Julianna later divorced and Jacob married a second time, although his wife's name is unknown.  Jacob had one child by his second wife, a son born about 1935.  Further information unknown.
2 - Henry Martin Hahn was born 14 Sept 1897.  He married Alma L. Ohst 25 April 1925 at Detroit, Michigan.  She was born about 1896 to Herman and Ida (Zerbel) Osht.  Henry and Alma divorced before 1930.  It is unknown whether or not they had any children.  In the 1930 census Henry is living in Detroit with his mother and the family of his brother Charles.  Henry is buried in an unmarked grave in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan, but the date of his death is unknown.

3 - Charles Benjamin Hahn (1899-?)
4 - Marion Adelia Hahn was born 13 July 1901 at Republic, Ohio.  She married William Mack Gorman 5 Sept 1923 at Detroit, Michigan.  He was born 24 May 1894 in Tennessee to John and Belle (McWane) Gorman and died 19 May 1959.  William and Marion are buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Detroit, Michigan.  Marion's grave is unmarked.
5 - Corrine L. Hahn was born 26 April 1903 at Republic, Ohio and died 1 Feb 1984 in Alpena County, Michigan.  She married Chester H. Whittenburg 21 May 1922 at Detroit, Michigan.  Chester was born about 1895 in Missouri to William and Anna (Hamilton) Whittenburg.  He and Corrine divorced before 1930.  Corrine's second marriage was after 1937 to Harry Griffith.  Corrine is buried in an unmarked grave in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Detroit, Michigan.  She is buried next to a William R. Griffith who is believed to be her second husband.

Katherine Theresia "Katie" Hahn, daughter of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 13 Sept 1864 and died 10 March, 1939 at Republic, Seneca County, Ohio.  In 1880 Katie was working as a servant for the family of Charles and Alvira Ames in Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio.  She married Thomas Edson Neikirk 3 May 1881 in Seneca County, Ohio.  He was born 12 July 1857 at Republic, Ohio to David Franklin and Mary Creager (Wolfe) Neikirk and died in 1927.

"The Village of Republic which for years has been noted for the decorum of its citizens, broke its record Thursday night by having a lively free-for-all-fight.  The fact that an Uncle Tom's Cabin Troupe held forth in the village is an excuse for the bad conduct, and in the minds of many people is sufficient cause for any acts, however reprehensible and disastrous in their consequence.

Langestaff's Uncle Tom's Cabin gave an exhibition in the village Thursday evening, and among those in attendant at the show was the well known blacksmith, Thomas Neikirk, who was accompanied by his wife.  They decided to remain for the concert which followed the regular program, and the smithy who is said to spent some time in the company of 'John Barleycorn' before going to the entertainment, made up his mind that he ought to see both shows for the price of one, and refused to pay the amount demanded of those who remained for the concert.

Neikirk became threatening in his manner and language, and one of the attaches of the show company promptly knocked him down with a tent stake, rendering him unconscious for nearly a half-hour.  Mrs. Neikirk fainted, some of the villagers came to Neikirk's rescue, and more showmen engaged in the racket, and all in all, a lively scrimage, in which several sore heads were resulted, took place, but no arrests were made, and when the sun rose next morning all was peaceful and quiet in Scipio's capital."

"THOMAS E. NEIKIRK, AGED 69, IS DEAD - Thomas E. Neikirk, aged 69, lifelong resident and blacksmith at Republic, died suddenly Wednesday morning after an attack of the heart.  Death came within an hour.

Mr. Neikirk was a son of David Franklin and Mary (Wolf) Neikirk.  He was born in Republic July 12, 1857.  He was married to Miss Catherine Hahn Jan. 1, 1881.  Mr. Neikirk was one of the best known residents of Republic, where he had conducted his blacksmith and repair shop for years.

He survived by his widow and two sons: Harry Neikirk of Detroit and Lawrence Neikirk of Shiloh.  There are a brother, and a sister, Henry Neikirk of Cleveland, and Mrs. Sam Armstrong of Tiffin.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Evangelical church in Republic.  Burial will be in Republic Cemetery."

"Following a period of ill health of more than a year, Mrs. Katherine Neikirk, 74, died Friday noon at her home in Republic.  Her death was caused by complications.

Mrs. Neikirk was born Sept. 13, 1864, to Henry and Mary Hahn, and she resided practically all her life in Republic.  She was married in 1881 to Thomas N. Neikirk and his death occurred in 1927.  Surviving are two sons, Harry of Detroit, and Lawrence, Tiffin; a brother, John Hahn, with whom she resided in Republic; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Yoder, Fostoria, and Mrs. Rose Swick, Tiffin; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at three o'clock Sunday in the C.V. Pancoast funeral home in Republic and were conducted by the Rev. E.E. Shilez.  Interment was in Farewell Retreat Cemetery, Republic."

Roofine Hahn, daughter of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 9 Feb 1860 in Reed Township, Seneca County, Ohio and died 13 Feb 1935 at Tiffin, Ohio.  In 1880 Roofine was working as a servant for the family of Morgan and Louisa Anway in Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio.  She married Philip John Scheer 25 Nov 1885 at Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio.  He was born 31 July 1851 in Ohio to Philip and Eva J. (-) Scheer and died 10 Jan 1938 at Tiffin, Ohio.

"TIFFIN WOMAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS - Mrs. Roofine Scheer, 75, wife of Philip J. Scheer, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the family home at 95 Adams street.  She had been in poor health for the past nine years with asthma and heart disease.

Mrs. Scheer was born in Reed Township Feb. 9, 1865, and was the daughter of Henry and Mary Hahn.  She was married Nov. 25, 1885, to Philip John Scheer and is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Eva O'Rafferty, and Mrs. Mary Bird, both of Tiffin; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Neikirk and Mrs. Rose Swick, both of Republic; and Mrs. Annie Yoder, Fostoria; and one brother, John Hahn, Republic.  Mrs. Scheer had been a member of St. Joseph's church for the past 30 years.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later."

Philip John and Roofine (Hahn) Scheer had two children:

1 - Jennie Eva Scheer was born 21 Feb 1888 at Tiffin, Ohio and died 22 Dec 1976 at Tiffin, Ohio.  She married Peter Dennis O'Rafferty.  He was born 1 Oct 1873 at Tipperary, Ireland and died 17 Feb 1942 at Tiffin, Ohio.  Peter and Jennie did not have any children.

Obituary of Peter D. O'Rafferty
"Peter O'Rafferty, 68, veteran of World War I, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1942, in his home at 104 Benner Street.  His death is attributed to a heart condition and followed illness which became serious about a week ago.

Mr. O'Rafferty was born in Tipperary, Ireland, Oct. 1, 1873, and was one of the 23 children of Mr. and Mrs. Peter O'Rafferty.  His parents brought him to America when he was seven months old.  He was formerly an engineer for the New York Central Railroad but was eventually forced to give up the profession becuase his health had been undermined by severe exposure to mustard gas during the World War through which he served with the 102nd New York Infantry.

Mr. O'Raffery resided here through the last 20 years of his life.  He was married to Jennie Sheel, who survives, and he also leaves four children of a former marriage, Paddie and Tom O'Rafferty, both in the U.S. Navy and believed to be in the Philippines; Katheryn and Minnie, both in New York; a nephew, Martin Burd, who resides in the family home here; and seven sisters and 11 brothers all residing in the south and west.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church here.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's church and burial will be in the parish cemetery."

Joseph David & Frances E. (Brown) Hawn

Joseph David Hawn, son of Henry and Mary (Wurm) Hahn, was born 28 Nov 1854 and died 6 Oct 1915 at Weier's Station, Erie County, Ohio.  Joseph was baptised 16 Dec 1854 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, Ohio.  Sponsors were Wilhelm Lehman and Anna Lehman.  Joseph was the only one of Henry and Mary's children to change the spelling of his last name from Hahn to Hawn.  He married Frances E. Brown 26 Aug 1879 in Erie County, Ohio.  She was born 14 Nov 1848 to Orlando and Laura (Boice) Brown and died 26 Dec 1934 in Erie County, Ohio.  Joseph and Frances are buried in Sand Hill Cemetery in Erie County, Ohio.

"Mrs. Frances Hawn, widow of Joseph Hawn, well known resident of this city, died at the Britton Convalescent Home at 5:20 p.m., Wednesday after a week's illness, aged 86 years, one month and 12 days.

Mrs. Hawn is survived by one son, Edwin A. Hawn, of Butler, Ohio; one daughter, Rose Holtz, of Sandusky; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Brown of Madison, Wisc., and many other relatives and friends.

For the past 19 years Mrs. Hawn had resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rose Holtz 1216 Milan-Rd.

The body was taken to the Charles J. Andres Sons' Funeral Home for burial preparations.  Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home to view the body and funeral services will be conducted there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. at the Sand Hill Methodist Church with Rev. M.A. Burris officiating.  Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery."

Stephen John Wurm, son of John Christian and Johanna (Lehman) Wurm, was born 18 Dec 1859 at St. Stephen, Seneca County, Ohio and died 7 May 1935 at Payne, Paulding County, Ohio.  He married Christina E. Steinmetz 20 May 1884.  She was born 25 Sept 1860 in Seneca County, Ohio to Michael Cornelius and Mary Eva (Falter) Steinmetz and died of consumption 23 March 1904 at Payne, Paulding County, Ohio.

"Stephen Wurm, a pioneer resident and highly respected citizen of Payne, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home on East Bailey street after an illness of but a few days, aged 75 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Mr. Wurm was born at St. Stephens, Ohio, Dec. 18, 1859.

On May 20, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Christina Steinmetz.  Nine children were born to this union, one dying in infancy.  The wife and mother died March 23, 1904.

Surviving are seven daughters and one son - Mrs. W.F. Baumle of Kendallville, Ind., Mrs. George Kurtz of Angola, Ind., Mrs. Wm. Heck and Victor Wurm of Paulding, O., Mrs. Wendel Heck, Mrs. Leonard Bowers and Mrs. Dale Amspaugh of Payne, O., and Miss Lorena Wurm, at home, also twenty-eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.  Two brothers also survive; John Wurm of St. Stephens, O., and Joseph Wurm of Kingsley, Mich.

Mr. Wurm was a carpenter by trade and followed that work until forced to give it up a number of years ago on account of ill health.  He had been a resident of Payne for 42 years.

The funeral, in charge of Gerald Snyder, was held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. John's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Bruin officiating at Requiem Mass.  Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery, southwest of Payne."

"PAYNE - Lorena Wurm, 89, died at 11:55 p.m. Nov. 1 in Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.

The daughter of Stephen and Christina (Steinmetz), she was born June 17, 1891.

A retired telephone operator, she was a member of St. John Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Bowers of Payne and Mrs. Esther Heck, Fort Wayne.

Services were Tuesday in the St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. John Hemstreet officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Slade Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  A rosary servic was held Monday."

Anthony & Victoria (Casanova) Worm

Anthony V. Worm, son of John Christian and Johanna (Lehman) Wurm, was born 19 March 1856 in Seneca County, Ohio and died 12 May 1924 at Parsons, Neosho County, Kansas.  He married Victoria Maria Casanova 6 April 1880 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky, Ohio.  Victoria was born 19 July 1863 in Seneca County, Ohio to John Peter and Margarette (Falter) Casanova and died 17 Oct 1918 at St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas.  Anthony's second marriage was on 9 Dec 1920 at Humboldt, Kansas to Sidonia Rice.  Sidonia was born about 1870.  Anthony and Victoria began their married life in Seneca County, Ohio.  In 1884 they moved to Payne, Paulding County, Ohio and in 1903 they moved to St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas.

"The following obituary of Anthony Worm is taken from the St. Paul (Kansas) Gazette:

'There is a reaper whose name is Death,
And, with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flower that grow between.'

Anthony Worm died at Mercy hospital, Parsons, Kansas May 12, 1924 and was buried from St. Francis church here, May 15, at a solmen Requiem High Mass.  His six sons were his pall bearers.

Neither the ministrations of kindly hands and loving hearts, not the skill of medical science, could alleviate the suffering he bore so patiently for almost three years.  At his bedside during three weeks at Mercy hospital were always some of his children - oftentimes all of them - their presence affording him much comfort and consolation.

Mr. Worm was born in Seneca County, Ohio, May 19, 1856, and resided there until 1884 when he moved to Payne, O.  In 1903 he moved to St. Paul, Kansas.  He was married to Miss Victoria Casasnova in 1880.  To them were born thirteen children, two of them preceded their parents to eternity.  The surviving children are: Mrs. Jos. Lucas, Antwerp, O.; Mrs. Jos. Nunnink and Mrs. Oliver Richards, St. Paul, Kas.; Mrs. Orval Hunt and Mrs. Oscar Hoke, Humboldt, Kas.; Oliver and Cyril, Luling, Texas; John, Port Arthur, Texas; Henry, Carthage, Mo.; Ralph, Carl Junction, Mo.; and Jerome, Sapulpa, Okla.  There are also sixteen grandchildren.

Among many lovable traits of character Mr. Worm's charity was conspicuous.  He was always ready to extend help and assistance to a neighbor in sickness and trouble.  St. John's beautiful church in Payne, Ohio, his former home, is largely indebted to his generous donations.  Requiescat in peace.

Mr. Worm was married a second time, the latter part of 1921 to Mrs. Sidonia Rice of Humboldt, Kansas, who survives him.  Until the last few months of his life, Mr. Worm made his home in Humboldt."

The following recollections were written by Victoria (Lucas) Kuhn in 1970 and shared with me by her daughter, Christena (Kuhn) Schaefer.  Victoria was the daughter of Mary Isabelle (Wurm) Lucas and a granddaughter of Anthony & Victoria (Casasnova) Wurm.
"My mother's parents were Anthony and Victoria Worm but I wouldn't see them often as they moved their family of 11 children to Kansas in Oct., as I was born in Nov. of 1903.  Mother told me often how sad she was to see all her loved one go so far away and she and daddy stay here.  They had married on Jan. 12, 1901.  Before grandpa left Ohio he owned over 800 acres of land, a hotel and furniture factory and a feed mill in Payne.  Then on the farm he had a saw mill, a brick and tile mill.  I think he donated the brick for our St. John's Catholic Church as well as the Communion rail and pulpit and several windows.  When they had their farm sale it took 2 days so they told me, and he furnished the eats.  Dad roasted a beef in an outdoor pit and also cooked bean soup in a large outside kettle and another one with vegetable soup in it.  So they moved to Kansas.

When I was 6 mo. old Grandma came to visit us.  Then is when they took a picture of my Great Grandmother Casanova, Grandma Worm, my mom and I.  Then when I was 5 yrs. old my mother and I went to Kansas to see them.  I remember I had my first loose tooth and Aunt Marie had me kneel down in front of her, she put a string around it and yanked it out.  She was a year or so older than I.

In those days Grandma Worm would write and ask Mother and I to come visit them if she would send an excursion ticket on the railroad.  That meant a 2 weeks stay with them and the ticket was sold them at a real discount.  So when I was about 8 years old, she wrote and ask us to come as Aunt Pauline was ill, so we went.  Aunt Pauline was 12 or 14 years old and she was so sick.  The day after we arrived she took spinal meningitis and was buried the day before Xmas.  I remember she looked like a waxed doll to me and she had such a beautiful smile on her pretty face.  The children and I weren't allowed to go in her room and we would play very quietly.  Every moning and evening we all lined up for our tablespoon of rock and rye as a preventative of the disease.  My mom was her nurse.  Aunt Pauline couldn't move or talk but when the priest ask her if she wanted Holy Communion she pressed his hand (as he had instructed) so he put a little piece of host on a few drops of water and put it in her mouth.  The first night we arrived she asked my mother to come kneel and pray with her at her altar that was in the corner of her room.  In her prayers she asked God for her to become a Sister and if he didn't want her to live she asked him to take her to heaven - and the next morning she was stricken, so the priest told us she went into heaven and that was the cause of the beautiful smile as she died.  Grandma had bought a Christmas gift for Aunt Pauline, which was the chocolate set I have that says, "Merry Christmas".  So she gave it to my mom to keep for me.  I always cherished it and have some beautiful memories of that trip.

About every Christmas as long as my grandma Worm lived she would send us a barrel of gifts from Kansas.  That barrel would come by train and daddy would go to town in a wagon to get it.  That would be a big event, opening the barrel.  It would contain lots of canned fruits and jellies, home made candy and about 1/2 bushel of pecan nuts.  They grew in Kansas.  Then there would be beautiful materials for mom to sew into dresses for her and I.  And there would be a few suits of heavy underwear for all 3 of us.  Mother would sew all those pretty materials into dresses for her and I.  One time there was a little bracelet for me and another time a string of beads.  Those were really great days.

I recall that when I was about 7 years old we expected Grandma and Grandpa Worm with Aunt Marie and 5 year old Uncle Cyril to come visit us over Thanksgiving.  My parents wanted to have roast goose for the dinner, so Mom went about a mile away to a Hungarian lady who was raising them and bought one from her.  This lady said she would fatten this goose until time to dress it.  The way she did it was to stir warm milk into corn meal and sitting on the floor she would take the goose's head between her legs and open the goose's mouth and spoon big amounts of this mushy corn stuff down its throat.  This lady weighed 250 pounds and it really was a funny sight to behold.  This particular time Uncle Cyril, Aunt Marie and I went back in the field to our watermelon patch with our coaster wagon to gather watermelons.  We filled them high on the wagon and pulling it across the rough ground 2 big melons fell off and broke all up.  Well we sat there in the corn field and really filled up - but we still had several to take home.  Then one day the 3 of us were coasting down a pasture slope and up came our flock of sheep.  We left the wagon and all ran to go over a high woven fence that had a barbed wire string on top.  Well, we all got over the fence, but Aunt Marie, there she was on top of the fence with her panites caught in the barbed wire, and there was the old Buck sheep trying to reach her.  We all screamed until Mother came and got Aunt Marie off the fence.  Mother had this Hungarian lady to come cook and serve our Thanksgiving dinner so she could just enjoy and visit with her dear Parents.

In 1918 an epidemic of flu and lots of people got the flu and died.  In Oct. they closed all the schools, movies and church services.  Then the last day of Oct. came a very sad day.  We received a telegram that Grandma Worm died suddenly.  My dear saddened Mother was taken to the train and she went to attend the funeral.  Everyone on the train were wearing masks, so mother said, trying to avoid the flu.  I stayed home with daddy and helped him."

6 - Oliver Joseph "O.J." Worm was born 6 April 1890 in Harrison Township, Paulding County, Ohio and died 26 Sept 1960 at Pharr, Texas.  He married Lillian M. Stevens.  She was born 23 Dec 1881 in Kansas and died 25 Feb 1969 in Hidalgo County, Texas.  O.J. and Lillian are buried in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in St. Paul, Kansas.  They did not have any children.

Joseph C. Wurm, son of John Christian and Johanna (Lehman) Wurm, was born 22 Aug 1854 in Seneca County, Ohio and died 20 Jan 1952 at Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  He was baptised at St. Bernards Catholic Church in New Washington, Crawford County, Ohio on 23 Aug 1854.  Sponsors were Wilhelm Lehman and Anna Lehman.  Joseph married Katherine Dorothy Weis on 19 Feb 1884 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bismark, Huron County, Ohio.  She was born 29 June 1862 in Germany to Peter and Barbara (-) Weis and died 2 Jan 1951 at Hannah, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.

"Joseph Wurm, 97, a resident of this area for the past 55 years, died early Sunday morning at the home of his son, Alois Wurm, south of Hannah.

Mr. Wurm was born August 22, 1854, in Seneca County, Ohio, the son of Christian and Johanna Wurm.  On February 19, 1884, he was united in marriage to Katherine Wise and to this union were born four children.  In 1897 the family moved to the Hannah community.

Mr. Wurm was a member of the Holy Name Society and also a member of St. Mary's church of Hannah.

Surviving are two children, Mrs. Frank Clous and Alois J. Wurm, both of Hannah, 23 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.  His wife preceded him in death in 1951.  One daughter also preceded him in death in 1929 and one son died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held from St. Mary's church, Hannah, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., Rev. Clement Sigmund will officiate and burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hannah."

"Mrs. Katherine D. Wurm, 88, a resident of the area for the past 54 years, died this morning at her farm home south of Hannah.

Mrs. Wurm was born January 29, 1862 in Germany and in 1880 came with her brother to Ohio.  On Feb. 19, 1884, she was united in marriage to Joseph Wurm in Ohio, and in 1897 the family moved to this community.

Mrs. Wurm was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a member of St. Mary's Church, Hannah.

Surviving besides her husband are two children, Mrs. Frank Clous of Hannah and Alois, at home; 23 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.  One daughter preceded her in death in 1929 and one son died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held from St. Mary's church in Hannah at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, with Rev. Clement Sigmund officiating.  Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery.  The Rosary will be recited at the farm home south of Hannah church tonight and Wednesday at 8:00 p.m."

The following recollections, about Katherine (Weis) Wurm's immigration to American and about she and Joseph's relocation to Hannah, Michigan, were written in 1976 by Alois J. Wurm, son of Joseph and Katherine (Weis) Wurm, and shared with me by Alois's daughter, Dorothy Simon-Tibbe.
"Peter Weis was the Bergmeister (mayor) of that Village (Rhine Falls Berin) and a school official, who with his wife Barbara had seven children, one of whom is Grandma Katherine Dorothy Weis, who married Grandpa Joseph Wurm.  Katherine Weis came to America as a young lady of 18 only to help her brother John on the passage as his wife was very ill and they had three little children.  Katherine Weis had no intention of staying in America as she was from a wealthy family, her father being the Bergmeister, a school official, and a very important man. The passage was so horrid, and they were on the ocean for three months.  It was so cold that she froze her feet, as they were traveling by freighter and not a passenger ship.  Grandma Katherine vowed never to get on a ship again, so was 'captive' in America.  They settled in the farming area near Monroeville, Ohio, and she continued to care for her nieces and nephews.

Thomas Worm, Josephine Umlor's father, arrived here [Hannah, Michigan] from Ohio about 1880-1884 and settled in the woods by cutting out a spot and rolling logs together to build a home for themselves.  There were 12 children, about 8 boys.  This spot was north of the church about 3/4 mile but there was no church yet, and no road leading north of the Hannah corner.  All was large timber.

My father and mother not being happy in their set-up in Ohio, wrote to Uncle Tom as he called him, but the letters always came back.  The post office had no luck in finding Thomas Worm.  But in 1897 they did get the answer in the form of an invitation to come because he wanted a relative besides himself to live in the area with him.

So in the fall of 1897 my father came here and bought 40 acres where we now live with a small house and a log barn for $640.00.  There was about 25 acres clear; the rest woods.  It was on Dec. 7, 1897 they came by train with some farm tools and furniture all in a railroad box-car, and stayed at Uncle Tom's.  As Aunt Hattie (sister to Alois) puts it they slept 5 in one bed a few nights they were there.

Joseph and Katherine Wurm rented 1/2 of a box-car, and hauled all their belongings in this manner.  They brought a team of oxen, two cows, some chickens, all their household items, and their entire family, rode in this same box-car.  The wagon and oxen were the last on and first off.  They brought all their farm tools...all their worldly possessions, as no one had heard of 'selling' or 'auctions'...what you owned, you kept for your lifetime.  They came into the train depot at Kingsley, which was just east of where the co-op is.  The oxen were again hitched to the wagon, and the cattled tied on behind to follow as they trecked westward the six miles or so to hannah, and to the Tom Worm homestead 3/4 mile north of the present St. Mary's church corner."

"Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wurm of Hannah, who are celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary today.  Tonight a family dinner will be served in their home in commemoration of the event.

Joseph Wurm and Miss Katherine Weis were married at St. Sebastian's Church, Bismarck, Ohio, February 19, 1884.  After making their home in Seneca County, Ohio, where they resided on a farm for many years and were Mr. Wurm was an employee of the Pennsylvania railroad.  In 1897 they moved to Michigan where they purchased a farm near Hannah which has since been their home.

They are the parents of two children, Mrs. Hattie Clous of Hannah, and Alois, who resides with his parents.  Two children, a daughter died in 1929, and a son died in 1895.  They also have 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Wurm are enjoying good health."
